The three rays ...
Emma shrugged shyly. “I think, … I think God talked to me.”
The parish was buzzing that Sunday morning. Sunlight poured through the stained-glass window above the altar, splitting into three bright rays that fell across the pews like gentle fingers of fire. Twelve-year-old Emma noticed it first. She tugged her dad’s sleeve.
“Look… it’s like the window is glowing on purpose.”
Her dad smiled. “Maybe it is.”
But Emma wasn’t convinced. She had been struggling for months—her mom’s illness, school stress and the feeling that God was far away. She kept coming to Mass, but her prayers felt like paper airplanes that never reached heaven. During Father Miguel’s homily, he spoke simply:
“The Trinity is not a puzzle to solve. It’s a relationship to step into. God is Father who loves you, Son who walks with you, and Spirit who strengthens you.”
Emma stared at the three rays of light. One fell across her hands. One across her heart. One across her face. It felt… intentional. After Communion, she stayed kneeling longer than usual.
“God,” she whispered, “if You’re really here… I need You to stay close. I can’t do this alone.” The light didn’t move. But something inside her did. A warmth—quiet, steady, unmistakable—settled in her chest. Not a miracle. Not a vision. Just a presence. Like Someone had sat beside her. After Mass, Father Miguel found her in the aisle.
“You looked peaceful today,” he said.
Emma shrugged shyly. “I think… I think God talked to me.”
“Ah,” he smiled, “then you’ve met the Trinity. The Father who sees you, the Son who loves you and the Spirit who strengthens you.”
Emma looked back at the stained glass. The three rays still glowed, soft and golden. For the first time in a long time, she didn’t feel alone. She felt held.
Moral: God is not distant or abstract. He is Love in threefold form — a Father who holds us, a Son who walks with us and a Spirit who breathes courage into our heart. Even the smallest ray of His light can change everything.
